Last month, a group of middle school students, whose school theme was “perspectives”, came to O’Brien & Keane to learn about the architect’s perspective—what the world looks like through their eyes, and what they do on a daily basis. Jim led a class discussion on the critical elements of design, and then challenged them to design a house for a fictional client, Mary Rider (a merry writer), who had very specific desires for her home, including a circular bedroom and a Juliet balcony. The students spread out throughout the office and started their projects, with staff circulating the office to offer feedback, advice, and cookies!
